Free flu shot for seniors

The flu season is here and now is the time to get your vaccine if you have not already done so.

The Queensland Government has been notified of more than 22,000 flu cases so far in 2025. In 2024 almost 80,000 cases of influenza were reported in Queensland with hospital admissions peaking in July.

With the vaccine taking two weeks to be fully effective, book a time to talk to your doctor or healthcare provider about vaccination. The flu vaccine is free although your healthcare provider may charge a fee for the consultation.

Your doctor may also suggest a free COVID-19 booster or a paid RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) vaccine as well. Both vaccines will help protect against the two highly contagious viruses which impact heavily on the airways and lungs.
