Paying for aged care
Government Support to Stay Independent at Home
Finding the right support at home can feel overwhelming — but you don’t have to navigate it alone. The Australian Government offers a range of programs to help you stay safe, comfortable and independent in your own home.
There are several ways the Government can help you pay for aged care services — from basic home help to more coordinated ongoing care. From 1 November 2025, the Support at Home program replaced Home Care Packages.
Here’s how you can access government funding for aged care.
Start with a My Aged Care Assessment
Before you can access any government-funded aged care services, you’ll need an assessment through My Aged Care. An assessor will chat with you about your health, home, and daily needs to see what kind of help is right for you.
There are different programs and funding amounts depending on your level of need. If you’d like help with this process, Jubilee Community Care can guide you through the process, help you understand your assessment and set up services that suit your needs.

Types of Government Funding Available
Support at Home
The Australian Government’s Support at Home program began on 1 November 2025, replacing the Home Care Packages and Short-Term Restorative Care programs.
Support at Home provides three main types of services:
- Clinical supports – nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, allied health
- Independence supports – showering, transport, medication, respite
- Everyday living supports – cleaning, gardening, meals, shopping, social support
We can help you choose the right mix of services to match your lifestyle and budget. Depending on your income your care may be fully paid for by Government funding or you may need to contribute to the cost of your care. This contribution is assessed by Government as part of your My Aged Care assessment.
Commonwealth Home Support Program
The Commonwealth Home Support Program provides entry-level support for older people who need some help with everyday tasks to stay safe, independent and connected.
Typical services can include:
- Domestic Assistance – cleaning, laundry and accompanied or unaccompanied shopping
- Personal Care and Allied Health – showering or bathing, dressing and grooming, assistance with medication, and physiotherapy, nursing or occupational therapy
- Meal Preparation – help preparing simple, healthy meals, in home food preparation (we can batch cook and freeze meals)
- Transport – help to get to medical appointments, visit friends and relatives, social activities and community events. We can drop you off and pick you up in the local area (within a 10 kilometre radius and 30 minute duration)
- Social Support and Companionship – friendly one-on-one visits at home, going for a walk or having a coffee together, help to stay socially active and attend events
- Respite Support – short-term supervision and support at home, allowing carers time to rest or attend appointments
Commonwealth Home Support is often the first step in getting aged care support but is not as comprehensive as Support at Home.
