A longtime love of gardening and a green thumb have earned Jubilee Community Care client Bridget some much deserved recognition.
Bridget, 91, won first place in the Courtyard Garden category of the 2019 My Home Awards. The awards recognise and celebrate people living in Queensland’s public housing who take the time to establish and maintain beautiful gardens and how their work helps improve their local communities.
Bridget said she was delighted to win the award. “I got a shock and couldn’t believe it,” she said. “I have been working on the garden for 23 years and any extra money I have I spend on that.”
Gardening has been a lifelong love for Bridget. “At home in England I had a big garden,” she said. “I have always been very garden proud. And then I lived in Bellbowrie and created a beautiful garden. I was very sad to leave it behind when I moved.”
For her efforts, Bridget won a $100 Bunnings voucher and a certificate at the awards ceremony in Fortitude Valley.Posted by
