Disaster Planning for Summer 2016-17

Have you got your plan ready so that you know what to do in a emergency situation?

  1. Prepare and respond for an emergency such as fires, local flooding and extreme weather conditions that are likely to happen where you live.
  2. Plan what you will do. How you will evacuate. Let your loved ones know that you are safe. Have an emergency kit ready that might include batteries, first aid kit, bottled water, torch, radio, non-perishable items, tin food, medication, emergency contact details, cash, map of the area and a mobile phone.
  3. Practice and stay safe.

Buddy Shifts

If you’ve been with Jubilee a while you may have experienced our buddy shifts.

Buddy shifts are core to training our staff. We buddy up a new staff member with an experienced support worker to shadow them through several shifts and then identify where extra training is required so that our new support staff are appropriately trained and confident as they enter in to our world.

We would like to say a sincere thank you to all clients who support us in this process by allowing us to do this intensive training and to support workers who are invaluable in showing the ropes to new staff. It is with all your support and cooperation that we continue providing quality care and support to clients. Thank you.

Seniors getting fit in the comfort of their own homes

A handful of our Support Workers nominated themselves to take part in a revolutionary government led program of providing a tailored exercise program by an Accredited Exercise Physiologist to clients every week. This is an evidence based project that has been built around strength building and balance, which is so important as we get older. Traditionally clients would need to employ a exercise Physiologist to carry out a wellness program such as this so it is ground breaking and we are priviledged to have taken part in this successful 18 week pilot. It has been extremely successful with both our staff and clients gaining positive results and feedback.

“Our Support Workers feel that they are doing something of value and helpful for the clients as they see them improve in strength and balance week by week. The project is due to finish in December – it may lead to future developments for in Home Exercise Programs for more clients in the future. We are very excited about this as it would complement our current excercise classes and Stay Standing falls prevention program that are invaluable to our clients’ reablement in maintaining their independence.”
~ Nicky, Client Support Manager.

Letter from Ron

Vicki, this was one of the excursions of the year – from my point of view! I had no idea of what it was or where it was, but to listen to the history and see some of the sites (and the photographs) really excited me. It was then topped up with the best morning tea/ coffee followed up by a magnificent sandwich lunch (again with coffee) – I was blown away by the value!!! I don’t know how you do it – but please keep on doing it. Thanks again for updating my history of Brisbane and aviation -and for the best morning tea and sandwiches for lunch we’ve ever had. If it’s ever repeated, I’m in just for morning coffee/lunch sandwiches and coffee! Cheers, Ron.

Thank you to Trade Coast Central Heritage Park and the Cafe for hosting us and to Ron for his kind words about this trip.

In Vicki’s words “I love the Jubilee Wanderers, they’re just so full of life and vitality. I thoroughly enjoy organising all the activities and I couldn’t do it without my side kick Chris and my team of volunteers or as I call them ‘my angels’!”

If you or your loved one would like to join one of our activities, please give Vicki a call on 07 3871 3220.
